Retail transformed
COVID-19 has changed how we shop and how brands make, market and move products. At the same time, our most urgent environmental issues—climate change, plastics pollution, wildfires, drought, and more—have not taken a holiday. As online and other “touchless” commerce booms, consumers, businesses, and regulators are also demanding products, packaging, and processes that minimize ecological damage.

Rethinking Labels
Rethinking labels means taking a new look at how labels can help you better meet the packaging demands of a retail environment reshaped.
The world can’t afford to continue wasting materials, and neither can you. It’s time to think about products beyond their point of use. We’re leveraging our legacy of innovation to design label and packaging solutions that are better for our planet.
We’re empowering consumer-focused brands to create lasting change, reduce their consumption of natural resources and move towards a circular and regenerative economy.
Introducing Sustainable ADvantage
Sustainable
Advantage
Welcome to a portfolio of solutions that enable you to use fewer natural resources, cut carbon emissions, reduce waste and move toward a low-carbon, circular economy. Sustainable ADvantage solutions make it easy to improve the environmental impact of packaging and elevate your sustainability credentials without sacrificing performance — and, in many cases, without paying more. Many Sustainable ADvantage solutions are created according to EcoDesign principles, such as making labels from the same material as the package to increase the likelihood of the package being recycled. We’re featuring just some of our Sustainable ADvantage products here. Your Avery Dennison representative can help you explore them all.

The physical and digital are integrating like never before, and we’re leading that integration in labels and packaging. By enabling everyday items with radio frequency identification (RFID), our intelligent label solutions can dramatically improve supply chain efficiency and inventory management by allowing you to better track and authenticate products. They also let you offer richer brand experiences, build stronger consumer relationships, adopt more sustainable practices and more.
E-commerce labels
E-commerce packaging and shipment labels say a lot about a brand. That's why choosing the right label technology for your packaging is critical. We offer e-commerce materials that are easier on the Earth, improve product safety and security, help reduce counterfeiting and diversion, and offer an in-home unpacking experience that is delightful and on-brand.

CleanFlake™
For a PET package to be recycled, its label must be compatible with sorting equipment and able to detach properly during the recycling wash. CleanFlake materials come in sizes and thicknesses recognized by sorting equipment, while CleanFlake Adhesive Technology ensures that both the label and its adhesive come off cleanly. The result? More of your packaging becomes rPET and less is downcycled or incinerated. Otherwise, CleanFlake materials perform like any other label — on press, on your package and on the shelf.

Increases the amount of recycled PET
Helps reduce associated GHG emissions by up to 80%
Certified by Institut Cyclos-HTP for PET recycling
Available in white cavitated or clear film
Suitable for food and drink and home and personal care
HDPE Recycling
RecyClass guidelines dictate that recyclable labels for HDPE packages must wash off at 40°C. But the water in a typical shower is about the same temperature, raising the risk that recyclable labels on personal care products will slide off during use. Problem solved: our permanent acrylic adhesives stay in place during a cold wash, and in an industry first, they’ve been approved by RecyClass for pigmented HDPE recycling.
CleanFlake™ clear film label
HDPE Recycling clear film label
Standard permanent adhesives that hold fast during consumer use
Helps boost HDPE recycling rates and build circularity
Approved by RecyClass for colored HDPE
Available in MDO, PE and PP film
Suitable for food as well as home and personal care
Wash-off white paper label
Wash-off paper labels
Single-use packaging contributes to waste, pollution and climate change. More consumers are rejecting it, and more regulators are moving to eliminate it. Our wash-off paper labels make more packaging reusable. They’re engineered for easy removal at water temperatures between 21°C and 60°C — no added chemicals necessary.
Approved by European recycling and pooling systems
Suitable for labels with minimal ink coverage
Two different adhesives for optimal performance on different substrates
Suitable for food and drink, beauty, home and personal care and logistics
Compostable
Compostable white paper label
For a label that won’t prevent composting and makes disposal of packed or bagged produce easier, try our compostable materials. They’re compostable under industrial conditions and meet all country and local regulations, yet perform as well as non-compostable labels. And because sustainability should have shelf appeal, we made sure they look great, too.
Entire laminate is OK Compost-certified
Perfect for compostable packaging and bags
BPA-free and FSC®-certified
Safe for direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foods
